Sleep, Eat, Do in the Triangle
Sleep here.
The Durham Hotel: a great mid-century modern hotel in downtown Durham, walkable to most everything and with a great rooftop bar (see you there!). Continental breakfast is included, and most Sid Show guests have hung their hats there.
Eat here.
Here are some of my favorite dining (and drinking) spots in downtown Durham.
Pizzeria Toro - incredible pizzas, a killer kale salad and more.
Mateo - tapas and flavorful everything.
Bar Virgile - a favorite little bar with some great food too.
Littler - mmm. Lovely little(r) spot.
M Sushi - solid sushi in a dark and cozy space.
Geer Street Garden - just a fun place to eat, drink and kill some time. More casual than some...
Rue Cler - oui, le French fare est bien.
The Durham Hotel - good food in a lovely mid-century space (formerly a bank!).
The Pit - eager to try some North Carolina BBQ? Do it! Make sure you try the classic BBQ (pulled pork) and adorn it with the typical NC vinegar-based sauce that comes with. Yum!
Toast - lunch only, but yum.
Gocciolina - got a car? Make a reservation here (recommended!) at one of my very favorite restaurants in the area. It’s in an odd area (a strip mall) about ten minutes from downtown, but the food is always fabulous.
Do here.
Here are some notable things to see/do if you find yourself with some free time. Conversely, feel free to do absolutely nothing aside from seeing some Sid and taking in pretty NC.
Duke Gardens - Sarah P. Duke Gardens on Duke’s West Campus are beautiful pretty much year ‘round.
The Nasher Museum - lovely modern art museum, quite close to Duke Gardens.
21C Museum Hotel - this hotel honestly rivals The Nasher, with their ongoing, oft-changing exhibitions. Definitely worth a stroll-through!
